Situ.art and Wix compared
Wix is a general website builder with 2,000+ templates, an AI site builder and a free plan that carries Wix branding on a wixsite.com address; paid plans start at $17 a month billed yearly. Its Art Store app was withdrawn in 2022, and its galleries show the images you upload. Situ.art is made for artists: upload a photo of a work and its size, and it’s on your website, with framed images, in-room shots, installation shots and a walk-through video made automatically.

Where Wix is stronger
- A free plan with a public site, on a wixsite.com address.
- Thousands of templates and an AI builder, with full control of the design.
- A shop, a blog, bookings and email marketing on one site.
- Your own domain, free for the first year on yearly plans.
- Customer care around the clock on every plan.
Where Situ.art is stronger
- Nothing to design. Upload a photo of a work and its size, and it’s on your website. On Wix you design the pages and fill the galleries yourself.
- Every work in a room at its true size, beside a person for scale and in a walk-through video, made for you from the size you entered. Wix’s galleries show the images you upload.
- The details buyers look for, in a gallery’s order: title, year, medium, size in cm and inches, framed size, signed, and Available or Sold.
- AI training crawlers are kept out without touching robots.txt. Wix leaves you to write the rules yourself.
- Edit all of it on your phone. Wix’s help says gallery images can’t be edited on one.
- Room mockups come with it: the same plan gives you 20 AI images and 2 AI videos a month and unlimited downloads for Instagram and listings.
- Inquire on every work: a buyer’s message comes straight to your email, and your address stays private.
Which should you choose?
Choose Wix if you want a free site to start, or a shop, a blog and bookings on a site you design. Choose Situ.art if you want your work shown as a gallery shows it, each piece in a room at its true size, without designing anything.
Questions
- Is Wix good for artists?
- For a free or cheap site you design yourself, with a shop and a blog, yes. It doesn’t show your work in a room or at its size, its Art Store closed in 2022, and its help says gallery images can’t be edited on a phone. A Situ.art website shows every work in a room at its true size and can be edited anywhere.
- Can’t I add ArtPlacer to my Squarespace or Wix site?
- You can. ArtPlacer’s website widget is an add-on on its Standard and Plus plans and included from Professional ($40 a month billed yearly, $45 monthly), on top of what you pay for the site. Each room view is one you set up, and its videos come from credits, 4 a month on Professional. They’re made by an AI model, which redraws every frame, so the painting can change. A Situ.art website already shows every work in a room at its true size, with a walk-through video for every work and no credits; it’s drawn from your upload, so the work itself is never changed.
- Do I need photos of my work in rooms?
- No. Upload a straight photo of the work and its size, and Situ.art hangs it in a room at that size, beside a person for scale, and walks a camera past it in a gallery. The work itself is never changed.
- Can I use my own domain?
- Not yet. Your website is at situ.art/en/yourname. Put that link in your Instagram bio, your email signature or your own domain’s homepage.
- Does it keep AI crawlers off my work?
- Yes, with nothing to switch on. Your pages tell AI training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, CCBot and others) to stay out, while search engines, and the assistants that search for people, can still find you.
- How much does a Situ.art website cost?
- £9 a month on the Artist plan, or £90 a year (£7.50 a month). The same plan makes your room mockups: 20 AI images and 2 AI videos a month, up to 30 works, and unlimited downloads. You can build and preview the website free first.
