Art for the office, the hotel and the restaurant

An office, a hotel or a restaurant buys art for rooms it already has. Show the client the work on a wall like theirs before it goes out on approval. Upload a painting, print or photograph with its size and see it in an open-plan office, a meeting room, a hotel lobby, a restaurant and four more commercial rooms at once.

Art consultants, dealers and artists presenting work for commercial interiors.

The rooms

Eight commercial rooms, each with the same sample painting on its main wall. Under each, what the wall is like, how far away people see it, and the kind of work that holds it.

  • Open-plan office above a run of desks

Open-plan office above a run of desks

A long pale grey wall above four oak desks with black task chairs, lit from a window on the left. Most people see it from across the floor, five metres or more away, and the people at the desks have their backs to it.

Suits: One large canvas, 150 to 200 cm across, or a row of three smaller works. Calm abstracts and landscapes that read from a distance and do not compete with a working day.

  • Meeting room end wall

    Meeting room end wall

The end wall of a meeting room for six, behind a low oak sideboard and facing the length of the table. Everyone at the table looks at it for the whole of a meeting.

Suits: A single work of about 100 to 150 cm. Something with enough in it to reward an hour of looking, rather than a loud pattern that tires.

  • Office corridor

    Office corridor

A long white corridor wall with a low oak bench and a door at the far end. People pass it at walking pace and see it from a couple of metres away.

Suits: A series hung in a line, or one wide work above the bench. Works that make their point in a few seconds, with strong shapes rather than fine detail.

  • Hotel lobby seating

    Hotel lobby seating

A tall, warm stone-coloured wall above two curved green velvet sofas and a travertine table, with the reception desk just in view. Guests see it as they walk in and again while they wait.

Suits: The statement piece: a large canvas, 180 cm or more, that holds the whole lobby and photographs well for the hotel’s own pictures.

  • Hotel bedroom, bedhead wall

    Hotel bedroom, bedhead wall

A warm greige wall above a linen headboard, with an oak bedside table and lamp on each side. It is seen from the door and from the bed, at three or four metres.

Suits: A work a little narrower than the bed, around 120 to 150 cm. Quiet colour and soft subjects; it is the last thing a guest sees at night.

  • Hotel corridor with room doors

    Hotel corridor with room doors

A panelled corridor with dark oak doors at each end and a lit stretch of plain wall between them, above a dark oak dado. Guests pass it close up on the way to their rooms.

Suits: A work up to about 120 cm wide, or the same edition repeated floor by floor. Prints, photographs and smaller works sit well against the panelling.

  • Restaurant banquette wall

    Restaurant banquette wall

A terracotta limewash wall above a long green leather banquette and marble tables. Diners sit with their backs to it or face it from across the table, close up.

Suits: A wide work, or a pair, that runs with the banquette. Texture and detail count here, because people look at it for the length of a meal.

  • Café counter wall

    Café counter wall

A white wall above a long oak and terrazzo counter, with the coffee machine at one end and daylight from the shop window. It is seen across the room and by everyone in the queue.

Suits: Bold, readable work at 100 to 150 cm. A good wall for an artist approaching a local café, where a work on show can sell to the customers.

Seen from the desk, seen from the door

On a commercial wall the size is most of the brief. A print that looks right from a desk can look like a postage stamp from the door, and a meeting room’s end wall is read from the far end of the table.

Here is the same painting at three sizes on the open-plan wall. Show the client the size the room needs before you quote for it, and they see why the larger work costs more.

  • Sample painting at 16 × 20 in (41 × 51 cm): Contemporary office with white walls and workstations

    16 × 20 in · 41 × 51 cm

  • Sample painting at 32 × 40 in (81 × 102 cm): Contemporary office with white walls and workstations

    32 × 40 in · 81 × 102 cm

  • Sample painting at 48 × 60 in (122 × 152 cm): Contemporary office with white walls and workstations

    48 × 60 in · 122 × 152 cm

The same sample painting at 41 × 51 cm, 81 × 102 cm and 122 × 152 cm above the same desks. Hang your own work in this room.

Present the work

Upload the work and its size. It takes the sample’s place here and in every room below, so you can pick the rooms that suit the brief. These rooms are part of the full library rather than the free rooms anyone can use, so downloading from them needs a free account. It takes a minute and needs no card.

Questions

Can I show one work in several commercial settings?
Yes. Upload it once and it hangs in all eight rooms on this page at the same time, from the open-plan office to the café. With a free account you can open any of the 700+ rooms in the library and hang it there too.
Can I use a photo of the client’s own office?
Yes. Upload a photo of their reception or meeting room and the work hangs on their wall at its size. You can try it free in your browser on the client room page; keeping the photo as a room in the app and downloading from it is part of Pro (£29 a month).
Can I present a series?
Yes. Hang up to 8 works on one wall and they are laid out together in every room. Without an account you can hang two; a free account keeps up to 10 works.
Are the rooms real offices?
No. They are generated interiors of an office, a hotel and a restaurant, not photographs of a real building, and each is set to scale like every room in the library. To show the client’s own space, use a photo of it.
We present dozens of works a month. Which plan fits?
Artist (£9 a month) keeps a library of up to 30 works with unlimited downloads. Pro (£29 a month) has no limit on works, adds photos of clients’ own rooms and gives you 200 AI images a month. A consultancy with several people can ask us about Enterprise.
Is it free, and is there a watermark?
It is free to try with no account: upload up to two works and see them in every room here. Downloading from these rooms needs a free account, which includes 5 downloads. There is no watermark on any download.
